Fajita Style Turkey Burgers
I have never been a fan of hamburgers, I know CRAZY. They always looked so good, but the ground beef just wasn't appealing to me. I wanted so badly to eat one of those big juicy burgers, so I thought I would give ground turkey a try. I instantly became obsessed, it tastes amazing and is healthier than plain old ground beef too! When I cook with ground turkey, I would say a solid 75% of the time are these burgers. They are so good (not to brag or anything), but they are so. good.
I pile these Fajita Style Turkey Burgers high with grilled red bell pepper and red onions, pepper jack cheese, and my homemade guacamole. For extra spice, I sometimes like to throw grilled jalapeños on with a side of Sriracha too!
The ingredients above are ALL for the burger patties, they are packed with flavor! That is sugar in the jar on the left, so don't let that weird you out. We have a burger place in my hometown called Swenson's (shout out to all my midwestern people!!!) and it is AMAZING! That is truly the only place I would ever eat a hamburger, but they use sugar in their burger patties, which makes them just mildly sweet and it just works! So, I figured I would give it a try and it did not disappoint.
Finely chopped onion, jalapeños, and garlic sautéed in a bit of olive oil, again, will add so much flavor to the meat!
Raw meat looks so gross, ew. But once they are formed into patties and grilled to perfection, it looks so good.
Mmmmm, cheesy goodness. Keep in mind with turkey burgers there are no temperature options like you get with cooking ground beef. You can not have a turkey burger cooked medium rare or even medium. Ground turkey has to be cooked all the way through!
Pile on those toppings!!! And maybe serve with some homemade french fries?
Ingredients:
1 16 oz. package ground turkey
drizzle of olive oil for frying
1 Tbs. garlic (minced)
1 small jalapeño
3 Tbs. red onion (chopped)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. chili powder
pinch of pepper
1 Tbs. granulated sugar
Pepperjack cheese (optional)
Directions:
Chop red onion and jalapeño. Mince garlic. Heat olive oil in frying pan and sauté onion, jalapeño, and garlic over medium heat. Cook until fragrant and lightly browned. Remove from heat.
Once cooled, add sautéed veggies to meat. Add the rest of the spices.
Mix together with hands and form patties.
Heat frying pan over medium heat (or grill!) and cook patties until completely cooked through. Flipping them every couple minutes or so. Ground turkey needs to have an internal temperature of 165°.
Add cheese on top of patties until it begins to melt.
I am almost always cooking something in the oven every time I cook, so I throw in the burger buns for the last few minutes, so they are nice and toasty. Everyone loves a good toasty bun!
Other toppings that I put on my Fajita Style Turkey Burgers include:
Grilled red bell pepper and red onions
Lettuce
Tomato
Sriracha
Grilled jalapeños
